We Are The Painters

We Are The Painters is a duo of artists formed by Nicolas Beaumelle and Aurélien Porte.
Their name sounds like a statement their name sounds like a statement, a slogan: “they are painters”.

Since the formation of their group in 2004, they have been practicing unclassifiable painting.
WATP functions without one knowing which of the two artists is producing a gesture.
Their practice is composed of constant back and forth Their practice is composed of constant back and forth between their four hands, most often based on obsessive figures.

Their portraits of women have similar hairstyles and faces; they seem to have emerged from an indeterminate period. They paint and repaint the motif of Mont Chauve, a large hill north of Nice. They also paint on both sides of bistro chairs, which they turn upside down on the floor so that they can walk around them.In several of their paintings there is also a sort of gap, like the opening of a cave. And then there is the film they have been working on for several years.

Paint for “Ulma” tells the story of 'a little kid who becomes a work of art and joins a museum collection. In his quest, nine muses guide him "fromIn his quest, nine muses guide him "from landscape to landscape and from painting to painting until he reaches his ultimate territory: the museum.
An odyssey.

Their painting is never flashy, always with an economy of means, but always intriguing because of the primitive worlds it represents and the techniques used. Large flat areas of colour generally occupy the canvas: warm colours, cold colours (primary, secondary, tertiary), complementary or dissonant.

A natural state of art and the world. A singular world.
